This position is responsible for the pre-verification of insurance for patient’s office and procedure visits. The operations insurance verification specialist supports multiple clinics and requires high attention to detail and customer service. This position will work in collaboration with the site Executive Director, Front Office and Surgery Schedulers.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies insurance eligibility for both medical and vision insurances for upcoming patient appointments by utilizing online websites or by contacting the carriers directly via telephone
  • Chart preparation prior to patient arrival
  • Responsible for documenting patient information in electronic system to communicate eligibility to clinic team members
  • Requests referrals and authorizations as needed
  • Verify insurance eligibility for surgical procedures including cataract, cross linking, pterygium etc.
  • Review patient deductibles and/or copays, complete cost share estimates and enter the electronic system for various locations
  • Coordinate with front end/call center regarding scheduling errors.
  • Enter insurance referrals as needed.
  • Answers questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
  • Other job duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant insurance verification experience in a medical office, ophthalmology or vision experience preferred
  • Proficient in computers and relevant EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
